Newborns, Toddlers and the hottest day of the yeaR... Newborn Photoshoot at home, Southampton
Back in July on one of the hottest days of the year this year, I visited the lovely Emma and Francis at their home in Southampton to meet their new arrival and his big sister.
Emma and Francis weren’t actually living at home, they had moved out a few months before to have an extension built during the summer. They were living at Emma’s mum’s house at this point and had come back to the house especially for their photo shoot.
As with all building work it over ran and Emma was worried that we might struggle to book the session in. Thankfully it didn’t stop us going ahead with their newborn photo shoot.
Despite the chaos downstairs their beautiful bedroom was perfect for the newborn lifestyle photography session. So much natural light flooded their room, with a soft and comfy bed perfect for cuddles, but also helped us keep their three-year-old happy with some bouncing on the bed photos.
I love these lifestyle sessions because the newborn stage is such an amazing time. There is so much change and nowhere near enough sleep, but boy how special it is?
These sessions give me the chance to gift my families the permission to slow time down and soak in that special little person they have just met. Stare at their perfect lips, there tiny hands and take great big sniffs of that newborn baby smell. They’re full of new baby snuggles, soft kisses, and sweet little moments you will want to remember forever.
Because, in just a few months, when your new baby is crawling around and oh-so-curious about the world around them and your toddler is throwing a hissy fit because her brother touched her toys your lifestyle newborn photo sessions allow you to look back and remember those first days. They days when they loved each other.
I know that obviously I’m very biased, but I really don’t think there’s anything better option for your newborn photo shoot. Being able to stay at home snuggled up at home with everything is readily available. No lugging a huge bag of spares, nappies, bottles and snack to keep your toddler entertained. If you have other children there is nothing like their own toys in their own environment to help keep them on board. It also means dad is able to whisk your other children away to allow me to photograph those all-important mummy and new baby photos.
Lifestyle is the stress free alterative to a studio , no rushing, travelling , or feeling awkward. instead allowing me to capture those real candid moments. These images really will be photographs that you want to display around your home and look through for years to come.
